Broad Science Goals
In this technological world, the study of science has great importance in the curriculum. The science program should provide students with the skills and knowledge to explore and understand the material universe. Thus, the K-12 science program will provide students with a variety of studies in science. The program is designed to be taught with the student as an active participant using a process approach, as well as other teaching methods. The process approach requires teachers to be both planners and directors of learning activities; not only disseminators of knowledge.
The general science program in grades K-5 has studies in life, earth, and physical sciences. In grades 6-8, students continue studies in the three areas mentioned but study them in greater detail and depth. In the senior high schools a specific subject orientation is used with separate courses such as biology, chemistry, physics, etc. Finally, the science curriculum design is flexible enough to allow students with various ranges of ability and interest to successfully complete their science studies.
